Advanced Educational Technology

This course deals with both instructional and multimedia design principles. Students design, implement, and evaluate an extended technology project to solve an instructional problem.

Context

Course: EDTC 5315: Spring 2014

Instructor: Dr. David Byrum

Artifact(s) Selected:

Artifact  Reflection

This course was centered around the basics of digital imaging and editing, as well as digital citizenship and copyright for educational use.  The course focused on the use of photography, filming, editing, and general imaging. The four artifacts selected highlight my abilities to create timelapse and stopmotion videos. In addition, I was able to create an instructional video and a feature film addressing student/educator collaboration.

Throughout the creation process I dealt with issues with sound and image editing. In my feature film I wanted to make sure that the sound was clear and the segment transitions were as subtle as possible. That was also the first time I used greenscreen. The timelapse and stopmotion videos proved to be the most challening because they required lots of work, patience, setup, and shooting. After completing both projects I was eager to have my own students use them. My third graders used timelapse videos to show plant life cycles and and stopmotion to create their own stories for language arts and social studies.

EDTC 5315 provided me with a better understanding of copyright and creative commons, and developing project-based experiences for instructional purposes.
